Manaea currently owns an ugly 6.26 ERA and has struggled heavily adjusting into a bullpen role despite the Mets suffering multiple injuries across their starting rotation throughout the year.

For many fans, the situation has become increasingly difficult to understand.

A pitcher once viewed as an important piece of the organization’s plans now looks completely disconnected from the consistency and command that previously made him effective earlier in his career.

The financial implications surrounding Manaea complicate matters enormously.

Between this season and next year, approximately $50 million remains attached to his contract, meaning the Mets would absorb a significant amount of dead money if they eventually decide cutting ties becomes unavoidable.

Historically, even Steve Cohen’s aggressive ownership group has shown reluctance creating long-term financial dead weight extending beyond the current season unless absolutely necessary.

But performances like these begin changing organizational calculations quickly.

Especially when losses continue mounting.

If Manaea cannot reverse course soon, the possibility of the Mets making another ruthless roster decision may no longer feel unrealistic at all despite the enormous financial consequences attached to such a move.

If Morabito begins hitting consistently, the organizational patience surrounding Taylor could disappear very quickly.

The Kimbrel move already proved the Mets front office may no longer hesitate making difficult roster cuts once healthier players begin returning or younger options start demanding opportunities through stronger performances.

Then there is Hayden Senger.

And perhaps nobody on the roster currently feels more vulnerable.

Senger’s situation remains complicated largely because the Mets simply lack strong catching depth beyond Francisco Alvarez and Luis Torrens throughout the organization right now.

That reality alone may temporarily protect him.

But only temporarily.

Offensively, Senger has provided almost nothing, carrying a brutal .125 batting average while offering very limited upside compared to what contending teams usually expect from reserve catching options offensively.

The Mets attempted improving organizational depth earlier in the offseason by adding players like Austin Barnes and Ben Rortvedt, though neither solution ultimately stabilized the situation long-term.

Barnes has already been released.

Rortvedt remains buried in the minor leagues.

And Senger currently survives mostly because New York lacks immediately superior alternatives available internally.

However, baseball rosters change quickly.

That is often all it takes for fringe roster players to suddenly disappear from major league plans entirely.
