Yankees’ trade deadline plan involves Ryan McMahon for the wrong reasons originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
It was just one summer ago when the New York Yankees acquired third baseman Ryan McMahon from the Colorado Rockies.

McMahon is a slick fielder, but strikes out way too often to keep him in the lineup consistently. At least for a club with World Series aspirations.
The Yankees often use McMahon against right-handed pitchers and Amed Rosario against southpaws.
ESPN’s Bradford Doolittle wrote Wednesday that the Yankees could be searching for a third baseman before the trade deadline, and McMahon’s shortcomings are a major reason for that.
“The task, then, is to just hold down the fort, because the Yankees still have more than enough with which to win, ” Doolittle wrote. “If they do, then it’s still about October, and for that part of the calendar, they might look at adding another righty bat, perhaps a third baseman and, certainly, some bullpen help.”

If the Yankees want to kill two birds with one stone, Isaac Paredes of the Houston Astros comes to mind.

Paredes is a right-handed power hitter with the potential to fill in at DH if Giancarlo Stanton requires more time on the injured list or Paul Goldschmidt needs more days off.
New York owes McMahon $16 million for this season and next. It would be difficult to eat the money and part ways with the 31-year-old, so the organization is likely hoping for a big turnaround soon.
