Cowboys’ CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens Among NFL Leaders in Defensive Pass Interference Yards
The Dallas Cowboys may possess one of the most dangerous wide receiver duos in the NFL, and statistics from the 2025 season provide further evidence of just how difficult CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens are to defend.
While both receivers produced impressive numbers through the air, their impact extended far beyond catches and touchdowns. Lamb and Pickens consistently forced opposing defensive backs into mistakes, drawing a remarkable amount of defensive pass interference penalties and creating hidden yardage for Dallas’ offense.
According to statistics shared by Warren Sharp of Sharp Football Analysis, only one player in the entire NFL generated more defensive pass interference yards than the Cowboys’ star duo during the 2025 season.
CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens Ranked Among NFL Leaders
Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Alec Pierce led the league with 147 defensive pass interference yards. Right behind him were Dallas stars CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens.
NFL Leaders in Defensive Pass Interference Yards (2025)
- Alec Pierce – 147 yards
- CeeDee Lamb – 121 yards
- George Pickens – 120 yards
- Marvin Harrison Jr. – 105 yards
- Marquise Brown – 99 yards
- Jaxon Smith-Njigba – 94 yards
- Ja’Marr Chase – 91 yards
- Deebo Samuel Sr. – 90 yards
- Calvin Austin III – 79 yards
- Mike Evans – 74 yards
The statistic highlights the unique challenge that Lamb and Pickens present for opposing defenses. Even when passes are not completed, defenders often struggle to stay in position and are forced into penalties that result in significant gains.
Those hidden yards can often prove just as valuable as receptions, helping sustain drives and keeping the Cowboys’ offense moving.
Cowboys Boast One of the NFL’s Best Receiving Tandems
Together, Lamb and Pickens combined for 2,499 receiving yards during the 2025 campaign.
George Pickens enjoyed the most productive season of his career, finishing with 1,429 receiving yards. Meanwhile, Lamb recorded 1,077 yards despite missing three games because of injury.
Had Lamb remained healthy throughout the entire season, his numbers likely would have been substantially higher.
The combination of Lamb’s elite route running and Pickens’ ability to win contested catches gives Dallas arguably one of the league’s most explosive receiving groups heading into 2026.
Their presence creates matchup nightmares for defensive coordinators, who often have to choose which receiver deserves extra attention.
Hidden Yardage Creates Additional Offensive Value
Drawing pass interference penalties is an underrated aspect of wide receiver play.
Although those yards do not appear in traditional receiving statistics, they still contribute directly to offensive success. In many cases, defensive pass interference penalties can result in larger gains than completed passes.
For Dallas, having two receivers who consistently force defenders into mistakes provides another layer to the offense.
Lamb and Pickens have the speed, physicality, and ball-tracking ability necessary to challenge defenders deep down the field. As a result, opposing cornerbacks often resort to grabbing or making illegal contact to prevent big plays.
Those penalties effectively become free yardage for the Cowboys.
Cowboys Experienced Mixed Results With Penalties in 2025
Interestingly, Dallas found itself on both sides of the penalty spectrum last season.
According to Sharp’s research, opponents committed the second-most penalty yards against the Cowboys in the NFL, totaling 1,142 yards.
However, the Cowboys also struggled with discipline themselves.
According to NFLPenalties.com, Dallas had 133 accepted penalties against them in 2025, totaling 1,136 yards. Those numbers ranked among the highest in the league and became a significant concern throughout the season.
Head coach Brian Schottenheimer acknowledged the issue and accepted responsibility.
“If we’re not a disciplined football team, that starts with me as a head coach and the coaching staff,” Schottenheimer said.
Improving discipline remains one of the biggest priorities for the Cowboys entering the 2026 season.
George Pickens Faces Critical Contract Year
While Pickens delivered outstanding production in 2025, the upcoming season could be even more important for his future.
The talented receiver did not receive a long-term extension during the offseason, meaning he enters 2026 with plenty to prove.
Whether his future lies in Dallas or elsewhere, Pickens will likely need another productive campaign to secure a lucrative contract.
In addition to maintaining elite production, Pickens will also be expected to continue demonstrating maturity and consistency off the field.
The former Steelers receiver has occasionally dealt with criticism regarding his temperament, and another strong season without distractions could significantly improve his value.
However, repeating a 1,400-yard season will not be easy.
Several of Pickens’ biggest performances in 2025 occurred while Lamb was sidelined with injuries.
During Week 4, Pickens exploded for 134 yards and two touchdowns. In Week 6, he produced a season-high 168 receiving yards while adding another score.
With Lamb expected to be healthy, targets could be distributed more evenly throughout the offense.
CeeDee Lamb Could Reach Even Greater Numbers
While Pickens may experience a slight decline in overall production, Lamb could be poised for an even bigger season.
Despite missing three games in 2025, he still surpassed the 1,000-yard mark and remained one of the most dangerous receivers in football.
If he stays healthy for all 17 games in 2026, Lamb could realistically add several hundred more receiving yards and potentially increase his touchdown total significantly.
His chemistry with the Cowboys’ offense and ability to create separation make him one of the league’s most dependable playmakers.
A full season from Lamb could elevate Dallas’ passing attack to another level.
Expectations Remain High for Dallas in 2026
With CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens leading the receiving corps, expectations are understandably high for the Cowboys entering the new season.
Their ability to produce explosive plays, create hidden yardage through penalties, and force defenses into impossible decisions gives Dallas one of the NFL’s most dangerous offensive weapons.
If the Cowboys can improve their overall discipline while maximizing the talents of their star receivers, they could emerge as a serious contender in the NFC.
For now, all signs point toward another exciting season for one of football’s most talented wide receiver combinations.
