Santa Clara, California — What started as a simple mistake turned into one of the most talked-about moments inside the 49ers’ locker room this offseason.

Just days into the team’s OTA period, practice had wrapped up and most players had already cleared out of the SAP Performance Facility. Jaden Dugger, the 49ers’ fifth-round linebacker out of Louisiana, was no different. He packed up and headed home like everyone else.

A couple of hours later, Dugger realized he had left his iPad behind — the one with all his defensive meeting notes and playbook installs. Not wanting to fall behind, he turned the car around and drove back to the facility.

When he arrived, the parking lot was nearly empty and most of the lights were already off. Dugger figured he’d be in and out in a few minutes. But as he walked past the practice fields, he noticed lights still on in the distance.

At the far end of the field, one player was still out there working — alone.

It was Nick Bosa.

While the rest of the team had been gone for over two hours, Bosa was still grinding through drills by himself.

Later, Dugger opened up about what he saw, and his words quickly spread through the locker room.

“I thought I was one of the last guys out of here today,” Dugger said. “I went home, sat down, and realized I forgot my iPad. I came back two hours later expecting the place to be empty. Instead, I see Nick Bosa still out there working. That’s when it really hit me — the difference between just making it to the NFL and actually becoming great.”
