The Boston Red Sox have made a strategic decision, sending right-handed pitcher Brayan Bello down to Triple-A Worcester. It’s a move that comes after a challenging performance, and Bello hasn’t shied away from addressing the situation head-on.
After a tough outing, Bello, through translator Daveson Pérez, urged reporters to steer clear of discussing a potential bullpen shift for him. Fast forward to Sunday, and Bello seemed to have found a more positive headspace. Speaking at Polar Park in Worcester, he reflected on the emotional rollercoaster of the previous days.
“It was a really tough day,” Bello, a proud Dominican Republic native, shared. “I had a bad outing.
We were gearing up for a family trip to New York, and everything was set. So, when I got the news, it was a blow.
I even shed some tears because my love and passion for this game run deep. But today, I’m feeling better.”
Bello’s stats from last season were impressive, boasting an 11-9 record with a career-best 3.35 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP. However, this season has been a different story, with a 2-6 record over 12 games, including eight starts, and a 6.34 ERA alongside a 1.67 WHIP.
Despite the setback, Bello remains committed to his craft. “I’m ready to put in the work down here so whenever it’s my time and whatever role they give me at the big-league level, I’m able to take full advantage of it,” he expressed.
Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow chimed in, expressing a desire for Bello to rediscover his passion for baseball during his stint in the minors. But for Bello, that passion has never wavered.
“I’ll never not love this game,” he affirmed. “That love and passion are why I take it to heart when things don’t go well.
It makes the tough times harder because of that love.”
Looking ahead, Bello is set to throw a bullpen session on Tuesday, with his first start for the WooSox scheduled for Thursday. It’s a new chapter, and Bello seems ready to embrace the challenge, fueled by his enduring love for the game.
