Rangers Target Another Mets Arm For Playoff Push

The Texas Rangers might not be tearing up the league this season, but they’re hanging in there with a 30-32 record, just 2.5 games shy of the AL West lead. They’re also neck-and-neck with the Athletics for that coveted third Wild Card spot. While it hasn’t been the dream season they hoped for, the postseason door is still wide open.

As the MLB trade deadline approaches on August 3, the Rangers could find themselves in the buyer’s seat if they remain in the hunt. Tim Kelly from Bleacher Report has pointed out a potential trade scenario that could see the Rangers reinforcing their bullpen with a key acquisition from the New York Mets.

This time around, it’s not an outfielder like Brandon Nimmo catching the Rangers’ eye, but rather a seasoned right-handed reliever with a 2.35 ERA – Huascar Brazoban.

Brazoban, at 36, is having a career year with the Mets. Despite his age, he’s not even eligible for arbitration until 2027, making him an intriguing trade piece for New York to capitalize on. The potential move would add another chapter to the Met-to-Ranger trade narrative.

For the Rangers, Brazoban would bolster a bullpen that has already seen solid performances from Jacob Latz and Jake Junis but could use an extra arm to shore up its depth. With 26 games under his belt this season, Brazoban has pitched 30.2 innings, notching 24 strikeouts and boasting a 124 ERA+. While his 3.76 FIP suggests he might not be as dominant as his ERA indicates, his numbers still make him a valuable asset for Texas.

Adding Brazoban wouldn’t just be a short-term fix. With club control through the 2029 season, he offers the Rangers a potential long-term solution in their bullpen. Even though he’s on the older side, his performance this season makes him worth the gamble.

This trade scenario is a win-win proposition. The Mets, possibly looking to sell, could get valuable returns for Brazoban, while the Rangers would be investing in a reliever who’s shown he can deliver. For Texas, it’s about taking a calculated risk on a player who could be a key piece in their quest for postseason success.
