Giants Face Jaw-Dropping $554 Million Nightmare Decision at Trade Deadline

Giants have insane $554 million decision to make during MLB trade deadline - Yahoo Sports

The San Francisco Giants are probably the most intriguing team to watch at the Major League Baseball trade deadline. We already know that San Francisco isn’t going to make any moves to improve its roster, at least it shouldn’t, but that doesn’t mean it won’t be one of the biggest sellers and have some massive decisions to make that will help or hurt its finances in the future.

One of those many decisions will come down to whether the Giants are looking to save money for now and in the future. In fact, there’s even a $554 million decision to be made.

“At minimum, the Giants are likely to move impending free agents Luis Arraez, Robbie Ray and Tyler Mahle, but the organization reportedly wants to unload expensive veterans and “start over,” which could include Rafael Devers, Willy Adames, Matt Chapman and Jung Hoo Lee.

“That group is still owed approximately $554 million combined, and San Francisco will likely need to retain a substantial portion of that amount to move those contracts,” Dan Soemann of Spotrac wrote.

The trio of Rafael Devers, Willy Adames, and Matt Chapman obviously hasn’t gone as planned.

I’m not that surprised, given how hitter-friendly Oracle Park is, but nobody thought Devers was going to swing the bat at this level, and Adames and Chapman have struggled offensively throughout this season.

It’s probably best for San Francisco to just cut its losses now, but it will have to hope that teams are willing to at least eat some of those salaries.
