Allen Park, MI . June 2026
The Detroit Lions entered Thursday’s OTA practice hoping to continue building momentum toward another championship run.
Instead, the organization was forced to absorb one of the most devastating injuries of its offseason.
According to head coach Dan Campbell, rookie wide receiver Kendrick Law suffered a torn ACL during practice and will miss the entire 2026 season.
The injury brings an abrupt end to a promising rookie campaign before it ever had the chance to begin.
Law was selected by Detroit in the fifth round of the 2026 NFL Draft after an impressive collegiate career that included stops at both Alabama and Kentucky.
The athletic playmaker arrived in Allen Park with hopes of earning a role in the Lions’ receiving rotation while contributing heavily on special teams.
Instead, his NFL debut will now have to wait until 2027.
Campbell confirmed the diagnosis following Thursday’s workout, delivering difficult news for both the player and the organization.
The injury reportedly occurred during a team practice session earlier in the day.
Medical evaluations later confirmed the worst-case scenario.
For Law, the setback is particularly heartbreaking.
The former Kentucky standout recorded 53 receptions for 540 yards and three touchdowns during his final college season and was viewed as one of Detroit’s most intriguing developmental prospects.
His speed, versatility, and special teams value had already started generating positive reviews inside the organization.
Several coaches reportedly believed he had a legitimate opportunity to compete for a roster spot this summer.
Now, the focus shifts entirely toward rehabilitation and recovery.
Fortunately for Detroit, the Lions remain deep at wide receiver.
Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams, Isaac TeSlaa, Cedrick Wilson, and Greg Dortch remain healthy as training camp approaches.
However, losing a young player with Law’s upside is still a significant disappointment.
Every offseason brings unexpected adversity.
For the Lions, that adversity arrived on Thursday.
For Kendrick Law, a dream season has been postponed before it could even begin.
Now begins the long road back.
And everyone inside the Lions organization will be hoping to see the rookie return stronger than ever in 2027.
