According to Kay, the most significant concern surrounding LaPorta at the moment involves his recent health history.

Although he played every game during his sensational rookie campaign and missed only one contest during his sophomore season, injuries became a major obstacle in 2025.

A serious back issue ultimately forced LaPorta to miss nearly half of the season and eventually required surgical intervention.

The injury interrupted what many believed could have been another highly productive campaign for one of the league’s brightest young stars.

Even with the physical setback, LaPorta still managed to produce respectable numbers whenever he was available to take the field.

The former Iowa standout finished the season with 40 receptions, 489 receiving yards, and three touchdowns across nine appearances.

Considering he missed eight regular-season contests, those statistics suggest that his overall production could have been significantly higher had he remained healthy throughout the year.

More importantly, the numbers fail to fully capture the influence he has on an offense when operating at full strength.

When healthy, LaPorta has consistently demonstrated an ability to become a quarterback’s best friend in critical situations.

His route-running precision allows him to create separation against linebackers and defensive backs, making him a dependable target across all areas of the field.

Few young tight ends possess his ability to accelerate in and out of breaks while maintaining strong body control and reliable hands.

Those traits have helped establish him as one of Jared Goff’s most trusted receiving options in Detroit’s offensive system.

In addition to his receiving skills, LaPorta offers significant value as a blocker, an aspect of his game that often goes overlooked by casual observers.

Learning directly from Kelce while spending a season within Reid’s offensive system could provide LaPorta with a nearly perfect transition into a starring role.

At the same time, the Chiefs would gain a long-term solution at one of the most important positions within their offensive philosophy.

Of course, convincing Detroit to part ways with a young cornerstone player would be extraordinarily difficult and likely require a significant package of draft compensation.
