Tottenham Win Race for Highly Rated Defender
Tottenham Hotspur have successfully secured the signing of Marcos Senesi, according to reports from talkSPORT. Spurs have now finalized an agreement in principle for the Bournemouth defender, building on discussions that first advanced in April. Bournemouth had long expected Senesi to depart after he turned down a contract extension last December. Despite attracting strong interest from Chelsea, Manchester United, Juventus, and Atletico Madrid, the Argentine centre-back has opted to continue his career in North London.
De Zerbi Pushes for Major Summer Overhaul
Senesi’s arrival is expected to be one of several important moves as Roberto De Zerbi looks to rebuild his squad following a disappointing Premier League campaign. After guiding Tottenham to safety with a tense 1-0 victory over Everton on the final day, the Italian manager emphasized the need to immediately focus on the future.
Speaking after the match, De Zerbi said:
“We close one page and we open another page today.
We have no time. We have to organise the next season, we have to build a stronger team. I am very happy and very proud of every one of us. What we did was incredible, but it is finished. Now we have to move on and prepare the future of our club.
I arrived in a difficult moment and I think it made us stronger. We can improve for sure — as a coach, as players, and as a club. We cannot make the same mistakes again.”
Senesi Set to Transform Spurs’ Defence
Having already secured the signing of Andy Robertson on a free transfer, Tottenham are now looking to reshape their defensive setup with the addition of Senesi. The 29-year-old was a key figure for Bournemouth during the 2025/26 season, starting 37 Premier League matches and contributing five assists as the Cherries achieved an impressive sixth-place finish.
Known for his composure on the ball and ability to play progressive passes through opposition lines, Senesi offers De Zerbi a different profile in defence. His distribution and tactical intelligence are expected to complement the pace and driving runs of current left-sided centre-back Micky van de Ven, giving Spurs greater flexibility in building attacks from the back.
