According to reports, the Lions have placed running back Isiah Pacheco on injured reserve following an injury suffered during OTA activities.
The organization has not publicly disclosed the exact nature of the injury.
However, moving Pacheco directly to injured reserve immediately raises concerns about his availability moving forward.
The news comes only months after Detroit signed the former Kansas City Chiefs standout in free agency.
Pacheco agreed to a one-year contract worth $1.81 million after four successful seasons with Kansas City.
The Lions viewed him as an ideal replacement following the departure of David Montgomery.
Pacheco entered the NFL as a seventh-round pick in 2022 and quickly became one of the league’s most respected running backs.
His relentless running style helped the Chiefs capture back-to-back Super Bowl championships during his first two professional seasons.
Over four years, he accumulated 2,537 rushing yards, 14 rushing touchdowns, and nearly 3,100 yards from scrimmage.
Despite his success, injuries have created challenges over the last two seasons.
A fractured fibula in 2024 and an MCL injury in 2025 limited his production and eventually cost him his starting role in Kansas City.
Detroit believed a fresh start could help him rediscover the form that made him a championship contributor.
Instead, his comeback attempt has been interrupted by another injury setback.
Pacheco was expected to serve as the primary complement to Jahmyr Gibbs while providing physicality between the tackles.
His absence now creates additional opportunities for younger running backs competing for roster spots.
For the Lions, losing an experienced veteran before training camp is far from ideal.
