The Boston Red Sox entered the day on Friday sporting a 23-32 record.
That’s not great and the club being nine games below .500 was tied for a season-high entering the club’s series opener against the Cleveland Guardians. The vibes around the organization aren’t high right now, to say the least. Boston owner John Henry’s recent comments didn’t help to add positive public relations for the team.
Clearly, the Red Sox’s fanbase isn’t happy right now. But what could make things better? A splash in the trade market.
There have been negative feelings building between the Red Sox fanbase and the organization for a few years at this point. The 2025 season paused things. Boston went out and signed Alex Bregman and made a legit run at Juan Soto beforehand. The Red Sox also acquired Garrett Crochet in a blockbuster deal before the 2025 campaign. It was clear progress, but the club has taken a step back. Letting Bregman walk unfortunately was part of that.

The Red Sox have done a fantastic job building a very good rotation and a great defensive team. But the club needs more offense. It needs to make a splash. Someone like Yordan Álvarez or Mike Trout would clearly appease the fanbase. Someone like Isaac Paredes could do the trick, depending on the price. But Boston needs a splash because the club just hasn’t been cutting it so far this season.
