As the 2026 MLB season unfolds, the Texas Rangers find themselves in a bit of a tight spot. In a division where the Seattle Mariners and the Oakland Athletics have held steady, and the Houston Astros remain a perennial threat, the Rangers knew they needed to bring their A-game. Yet, with a 25-30 record, they’re currently sitting third in the AL West, trailing the Mariners by two games.
One of the Rangers’ biggest hurdles this season has been their inconsistent offense. It hasn’t helped that their performance varies significantly between home and away games-it’s like they find their groove better on the road than at home.
This inconsistency has been a thorn in their side, particularly when it comes to capitalizing with runners in scoring position. They’re striking out 25% of the time and struggling to draw walks when it counts the most.
However, it’s not all doom and gloom. Brandon Nimmo, acquired in an offseason trade, has been a bright spot, alongside the efforts of Josh Jung and Jake Burger, who have both stepped up their game.
Yet, there’s one player whose offensive spark could potentially turn the tide for the Rangers-Evan Carter. Despite being named the team’s least valuable player by Bleacher Report’s Zachary D.
Rymer, Carter is still second to Nimmo in rWAR among Rangers hitters, thanks to his defensive prowess.
The challenge for Carter lies at the plate. Batting a mere .163, with an on-base percentage in the .200s and a slugging percentage in the low .300s, Carter’s offensive struggles are evident.
His lack of consistent hard contact and a dip in average exit velocity suggest that he might still be feeling the effects of past injuries, like a nagging back or the wrist issue from last season. Whatever the cause, the Rangers need Carter to find his rhythm if they’re to climb the standings in this competitive division.
In a season where every game counts, the Rangers are banking on their players to rise to the occasion. With a few adjustments and a bit of luck, they could still make a serious push in the AL West.
