Spurs revive pursuit of overlooked star who managed just seven top-flight appearances this term

Tottenham were strongly linked with a move for the Brazilian wide man last summer but could not agree a fee with City, and interest resurfaced in January without a deal materialising.

Now, Spurs are expected to revive their pursuit of the former Girona forward as they look to bolster their attacking options. A fee in the region of £60m has been suggested for the winger, who cost City £31m when they signed him in 2024.

Tottenham secured their top-flight status on the final day of the season courtesy of a 1-0 home win over Everton, and they are anticipated to be busy in the transfer market this summer as they look to back head coach Roberto De Zerbi.

The Italian performed near-miracles to keep the club up following his appointment in March, and he made clear after Sunday’s victory that reinforcements are needed. “Next season we have to build a top team,” De Zerbi said. “We have to bring, I don’t know how many, but other top first-level players because it is right to give satisfaction for the fans and the club — because the board suffered this season. We deserve something more because we suffered too much.”

Savinho, meanwhile, could be among those looking for a way out of the Etihad when the window opens. The 22-year-old managed just seven league starts this season, with the January signing of Antoine Semenyo pushing him further down the squad hierarchy.

That said, Pep Guardiola’s departure could work the other way — potentially persuading Savinho to stay and stake his claim under the incoming manager. Enzo Maresca is widely expected to be confirmed as City’s new head coach imminently, set to sign a three-year contract at the club.

It would represent Maresca’s third spell at the Etihad. He first took charge of City’s Elite Development Squad in 2020 before leaving to manage Parma, then returned in 2022 as one of Guardiola’s assistants. He subsequently moved on to Leicester in 2023 and then Chelsea in 2024.

As for Spurs’ other transfer activity, the club are keen to move swiftly ahead of this summer’s World Cup. They have agreed a deal in principle with Andy Robertson, who is departing Liverpool at the end of his contract, though they may need to fend off late interest from Juventus to get the deal over the line. An agreement has also been reached with Marcos Senesi, who becomes a free agent when his Bournemouth contract expires this summer.
