New Orleans, Louisiana – One of the most emotional symbols in New Orleans Saints history officially said goodbye to the NFL through tears Monday morning.
According to an announcement from the Saints, Taysom Hill signed a symbolic one day contract in order to retire wearing the jersey of the franchise he spent nearly his entire career representing.

The news immediately left the New Orleans community emotional because Hill had long become more than just a player throughout his unforgettable Saints journey.
Over nearly a decade in New Orleans, Hill earned recognition as one of the most versatile and unique players anywhere across the modern NFL era.
Throughout his professional career, Hill accumulated a total of 6,011 offensive yards and 67 touchdowns while playing multiple different positions throughout countless important games.
He spent time at quarterback, tight end, fullback, special teams, receiver, and even became one of the Saints’ most dangerous offensive chess pieces during major matchups.
However, that emotional football journey finally came to an end following the serious knee injury Hill suffered during the 2025 NFL season.
Multiple internal sources reportedly stated the lengthy rehabilitation process created enormous physical and emotional challenges for Hill over the past several difficult months.
What devastated the Saints community even more was the report that Hill reportedly decided to sell his Old Metairie home to help cover medical recovery expenses.
The nearly 5,000 square foot home had been considered Hill’s family sanctuary throughout many of his seasons playing football in New Orleans.
According to several local reports, Hill quietly placed the property on the market while his NFL future remained completely uncertain behind the scenes.
Many Saints fans admitted they were heartbroken learning that a player who sacrificed nearly everything for the franchise had been forced into such a painful decision.
Even though he never became the Saints’ long term franchise quarterback, Hill still remained one of the most beloved players in the hearts of New Orleans fans.
The most emotional moment came when Hill walked onto the Saints practice field one final time while teammates, staff members, and former players applauded continuously around him.
Several people inside the Saints organization reportedly broke down in tears as Hill embraced members of the coaching staff before the private retirement ceremony Monday morning.
“New Orleans gave me far more than football ever could. This city gave me a family, gave me belief, and gave me the greatest memories of my life. If I had to sacrifice everything just to wear a Saints jersey one more time, I would still do it again without a single regret.”
Following the emotional speech, Saints social media quickly filled with highlight videos and unforgettable moments from Hill’s incredible career in New Orleans.
Many fans especially revisited his iconic touchdown plays and the fearless competitive spirit he brought onto the field every single time he stepped between the lines.
Even though his career did not end with a Super Bowl ring, Taysom Hill still leaves the NFL as a true legend in the hearts of the Saints community.
