Many NFL teams have begun participating in Pride-themed photo shoots during the 2026 season preparation period, as part of the league’s “Football for All” campaign.

However, a Detroit Lions rookie has unexpectedly become the center of controversy after refusing to participate in one of the NFL’s Pride Month commemorative photo shoots.

According to multiple sources, rookie Blake Miller — the offensive tackle selected by the Lions with the 17th overall pick in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft — publicly explained his reason during an off-season media interview.

“Football should focus on the field, competition, and winning at the highest possible level. I respect everyone, but personally I believe that this sport should never be tied to political or social messages,” Miller said.

His words quickly spread strongly across social media, sparking a heated debate among Lions fans and the NFL community just weeks before the official training camp begins.

One group of fans strongly supports Miller, arguing that players should never be forced to participate in any social campaigns if they feel uncomfortable. In contrast, many others harshly criticize the rookie, claiming he has “undermined” the league’s spirit of inclusion.

Blake Miller enters the NFL with very high expectations after the Lions used their first-round pick on him. The standout offensive tackle from Clemson is viewed as a premium talent with elite size, athleticism, and technical skills. He is expected to immediately compete for a starting role on the offensive line to protect Jared Goff.

In his final college season at Clemson, Miller displayed consistent dominance, particularly in pass protection and run blocking. Many experts project him as a future All-Pro caliber lineman and a cornerstone of the Lions’ offensive line for years to come under head coach Dan Campbell.
