The San Francisco 49ers may be excited about their new rookie class, but not every veteran inside the locker room seems completely sold just yet.
Rookie wide receiver De’Zhaun Stribling entered offseason workouts with growing hype surrounding his athleticism and potential future role within Kyle Shanahan’s offense.
However, comments made this week by veteran fullback Kyle Juszczyk quickly caught attention among fans online after some interpreted them as a subtle challenge directed toward the young receiver.
While speaking about the rookie class, Juszczyk praised Stribling’s physical tools but also hinted that raw talent alone would not guarantee success in San Francisco.
“You can tell he’s gifted physically right away,” Juszczyk explained. “But around here, talent only gets your foot in the door. Consistency, preparation, and understanding the system are what actually keep you on the field.”
The veteran’s comments immediately sparked discussion across social media, with many fans believing the longtime leader was sending a message directly toward the rookie wideout.
Others viewed the remarks as standard veteran accountability inside one of the NFL’s most demanding offensive systems.
Stribling arrived in San Francisco after a productive season at Ole Miss where he recorded 612 receiving yards and six touchdowns while showcasing explosive after-the-catch ability.
The rookie has already earned praise from quarterback Brock Purdy, who recently described him as a player capable of making an “immediate impact” once fully comfortable inside the offense.
Still, the pressure surrounding the young receiver continues growing as the 49ers reshape their receiving corps following major offseason changes involving Jauan Jennings, Kendrick Bourne, and the uncertain future of Brandon Aiyuk.
For now, Stribling has not publicly responded.
But inside the 49ers locker room, it already feels clear that respect in San Francisco still has to be earned — not handed out because of draft status or offseason hype.
