The Astros have made a strategic move by sending catcher Cesar Salazar outright to Triple-A Sugar Land. After being designated for assignment, Salazar cleared waivers and opted to stay with the organization rather than test free agency. This decision speaks volumes about his commitment to the team he\u2019s been a part of since turning pro.<\/p>\n

This isn’t Salazar’s first rodeo with the DFA process this season. Having been through it once already, he had the choice to explore other opportunities. Yet, his decision to remain with the Astros highlights his loyalty and perhaps a belief in the potential for future opportunities with the team.<\/p>\n

At 30 years old, Salazar has had a taste of the big leagues over parts of four seasons with Houston. His major league numbers- a .189\/.295\/.216 slash line over 45 games-might not leap off the page, but he’s been a reliable option when the Astros needed a quick fix behind the dish.<\/p>\n

Salazar stepped up in May when Yainer Diaz was sidelined by an oblique injury, sharing duties with Christian Vazquez, though his stint was brief, going 1-for-18 at the plate. Eventually, the Astros decided to bring in Collin Price to fill the role.<\/p>\n

With no minor league options left, Salazar’s acceptance of the Triple-A assignment means he\u2019ll be waiting in the wings as valuable catching depth. Should Vazquez or Price find themselves unable to play, Salazar is likely to get the call-up.
