In the heat of a tight Saturday showdown, with the Dodgers mounting their comeback against the Brewers, one young Dodger stood out in more ways than one. Andy Pages, already carving out his All-Star path, found himself squarely in the middle of baseball\u2019s oldest cat-and-mouse game: sign stealing from second base.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Brewers manager Pat Murphy didn\u2019t mince words afterward. \u201cThere\u2019s a huge emphasis on making sure they can\u2019t get your signs from second base,\u201d Murphy\u00a0said<\/em>. \u201cPitchers have to be able to not give away anything. It\u2019s gotten to be a science.\u201d He pointed directly at Pages as a factor in Robert Gasser\u2019s struggles late in the game.<\/p>\n

Gasser himself noticed the movement. \u201cI did look back once and saw [the runner on second] moving his hands,\u201d the left-hander admitted. \u201cI saw some of the photos, but it seemed like my hand was getting covered. Maybe they had something, maybe not.\u201d<\/p>\n

Yet for Dodgers fans who\u2019ve watched Pages evolve since his 2024 debut, this isn\u2019t shocking\u2014it\u2019s simply another layer of a player who keeps getting sharper.<\/p>\n

Pages went 1-for-4 with a double, an RBI, and a walk while hitting cleanup. That extra-base knock in the fourth got Los Angeles on the board, and he was still perched on second when Teoscar Hern\u00e1ndez launched the go-ahead three-run homer.<\/p>\n

Manager Dave Roberts pushed back firmly but calmly when asked about the brewing controversy. \u201cAll teams do it,\u201d he told SportsNet LA. \u201cWhether you have them to disguise or act like you have them, the gamesmanship part of it. If you can make a pitcher feel you\u2019ve got their signs, then you\u2019ve already won.\u201d<\/p>\n

He went further, admitting uncertainty about whether the Dodgers actually cracked Gasser\u2019s signs that at-bat. \u201cAnd honestly right there, I don\u2019t think we had the signs. I think Teo took a great swing and it wasn\u2019t really a great pitch.\u201d<\/p>\n
